celadon obsession

This was meant to be part of a triptych, but the other two panels were not to my liking. I think it stands alone nicely.

I usually find working on panels intimidating. Working on paper feels like play-- light, fun, full of possibility. Art with a lower case 'a'. Panels bring about an artistic freeze-- it has to be about Art! This is serious. It's on a panel, for heaven's sake.
But recently I have felt the urge to return to panels and build them up with layers, lines, intersections of color and then add bits of hardware to them. Despite the weight of the works themselves, the process of making them feels... light! We'll see where this goes...

Still loving celadon... and circles... and being inspired by the sea and everything that lives there.

the circles are back

Circles, for me, come and go in my work. I'm not sure of their meaning, but I know they're important. Is it the wholeness they imply, their luscious round bodies, or simply that they look a bit like a doughnut/cookie/other round sweet treat? I've got no clue. I've stopped trying to figure it out and (almost) stopped fighting their ubiquity. When I sit down to paint, they want to visit. So, here are some of my most recent O's, rings, circles, spheres, pods. Hope you enjoy.

Open Studio

A big thank you to all who came out to support me this weekend! My little studio had quite a few visitors. I really appreciate the love!
